- If attempting to learn a new technique or song, be sure to start off slow and work your way up to speed.
- Always practice with a metronome to help build up your sense rhythm and keeping a beat on time.
- Try to learn a new chord or a chord shape or position, every time you practice.
- When practicing scales, instead of just playing them, sound them out with the correct notes in the scale that you play and try to match pitch with your voice when reciting.
- Make sure you exercise all fingers to help build up strength, do not spend your time building strength on your first and third fingers.
- If your learning a new song, try to break it down into sections. ( Example: If your learning the solo section of a song, learn a few parts of the melody at a time or a few bars.)
- Try to set aside at least 45 min. to an hour each day to practice your guitar.
- Lastly, divide up your practice into sections (Example: 10 mins. for scales, 15 mins. learning new song etc..)
