Learning Basic Guitar Chords to get you started- Part One

It’s time to learn how to play the guitar by starting to learn 3 basic chords shapes. When I first started to learn how to play the guitar, I learned these 3 simple chords G, C, and D.  The reason most guitar teachers start you off with learning these 3 chords, is because they are easy to learn, and can play tons of popular songs!

Let’s get started with learning the G Chord:

Next let’s learn the D chord:

Lastly, let’s learn the C chord.

Congratulations, you have learn your first 3 chords, now let’s try to make our first song, using these 3 chords!

Tips: Before you start to play a song using these 3 chords, it might be hard to switch from G to C, and then to D. Here are a few tips to help you out:

1. Learn each guitar shape without thinking about it
2. Start slow while trying to change to each chord
3. With your strumming hand make sure you use a basic up and down strumming pattern, and count in your mind or out loud 1 and 2, and 3 and 4, then start over again with 1.
4. Make sure you have patience, and everything will fall into place, it just takes time for your mind to remember the muscle memory for your fingers, once it does you’ll be playing these chords by heart!
